You're clearing The Pit, spending upgrade attempts, and still wondering why your Glyphs barely seem to move. The temptation is to chase a higher tier or better Diablo 4 Items, but Season 15's Hell's Legacy adds another consideration: choosing the seasonal progression path that supports your farming session. Mephisto's Splinter of Hatred modifies The Pit, making your seasonal setup part of the efficiency equation rather than an afterthought.
1 Treat Glyph Farming as a Different Job From Pushing
A successful push proves your character can survive a difficult encounter. A productive farming session should deliver repeatable progress without demanding perfect execution every time. Don't judge a farming tier by your best run; judge it by the runs where the layout is awkward and your timing slips.
Glyph progression uses upgrade attempts rather than a conventional experience bar, and the relationship between Pit tier and Glyph rank affects upgrade success. That means dropping the difficulty indefinitely isn't the answer either: you need enough tier advantage to make those attempts worthwhile.
My recommendation is to compare several consecutive clears. Record completion time and actual ranks gained, then move upward only when the extra difficulty improves your return across the session.
2 Commit to the Seasonal Path Before Starting
Splinter of Hatred is the logical starting point for a Pit-focused session because Mephisto's associated activities include The Pit and Nightmare Dungeons. Reputation unlocks activity modifiers and power upgrades through War Plans, but changing your chosen Prime Evil requires acquiring another Splinter through the largest Waking Nightmares. It isn't simply a free toggle between runs.
For players dividing their evenings between several activities, that commitment matters. Decide whether tonight's priority is Glyph progression before changing paths, then inspect the modifiers you actually have unlocked rather than planning around rewards you haven't reached.
Evaluate each modifier against your current problem. If survival is limiting your runs, an aggressive setup deserves more scrutiny than it would on a character already cruising through the same tier.
3 Build Around the Slowest Part of Your Clear
For farming, I'd favor a build with accessible area damage, dependable resource recovery, and movement that doesn't interrupt its main damage engine. A setup requiring elaborate preparation for every pack may suit difficult pushing, but I wouldn't choose it for relaxed repetition unless its clear times justify that effort.
Watch where your run loses momentum. If ordinary enemies disappear quickly but the guardian takes several minutes, test more reliable single-target damage. If the guardian dies comfortably but corridors feel sluggish, experiment with mobility or wider coverage instead.
Approach Best Fit Tradeoff to Test
Fast area damage Players losing time between packs Whether guardian damage remains sufficient
Durable sustained damage Players struggling with consistency Whether safer clears offset slower movement
Focused burst damage Players spending too long on guardians Whether setup and cooldown downtime slow the dungeon
Use these as testing directions, not a class ranking. Don't rebuild around a fashionable damage number if the change makes your ordinary runs harder to repeat.
◆ Keep a defensive answer available when entering unfamiliar packs.
◆ Test equipment changes across complete runs, not isolated damage bursts.
4 Protect Rewards and Upgrade With a Purpose
Survival is more than a comfort preference. Season 15's Pit changes explicitly address Glyph rewards being reduced when Survival Mastery objectives are failed, so inspect the active objective instead of assuming completion alone preserves every reward.
Also, you don't need to socket every Glyph you intend to upgrade. Upgrade attempts can be spent on eligible Glyphs that aren't at their maximum rank, allowing you to prepare a future board choice without weakening your current arrangement.
1) Choose the Glyph whose next meaningful improvement best supports your current build.
2) Run a short batch at the same tier and note time, deaths, and ranks gained.
3) Change one variable, then repeat the comparison before committing to a longer session.
Which Option Should Players Choose
Choose comfortable repetition if your build is unfinished, and test higher tiers when your current route stops producing worthwhile upgrades. Treat d4 gear decisions as answers to specific weaknesses: resource interruptions, fragile defenses, slow travel, or lengthy guardian fights. The right farming setup is the one you can repeat efficiently, not the one that produces a single impressive clear.
